Matt. 5: 6  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.  This week we are looking at the fourth Beatitude.  What is righteousness?  The Webster’s Dictionary describes it as :  Meeting the standards of what is right and just:  Morally right.  What is hunger:  A strong need or desire.  A strong craving.   What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?  To find the answer to that question lets look at Isaiah 55: 1,2.  Is anyone thirsty?  Come and drink even if you have no money!  Come, take your choice of wine or milk– it’s all free!  2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength?  Why pay for food that does you no good?  Listen to me, and you will eat what is good.  You will enjoy the finest food.

Food cost money and it only offers temporary relief from your hunger.  But, God offers nourishment that is not only free, but everlasting.  This nourishment feeds our souls.  Our inner being.  The growling in our bodies that food just cannot eliminate or satisfy!  That growling is a hunger for righteousness.  No amount of law keeping, self-improvement, discipline, or religious effort can make us right with God.  Righteousness comes only from God, and we are made righteous by trusting in Christ.  He took our sins to the cross and through His sacrifice we are made righteous.  Thank You LORD JESUS!

We all have access to know Christ and the power that is in Him.  He gave us the manual, the Bible.  But we need to determine if we want that kind of power.  We need to set time aside to get to know Him.  What are you willing to sacrifice to truly know Christ?  Are you hungry?  Do you thirst?  Go to Jesus, He will satisfy.

You say how can I do that because I don’t know this Jesus you’re talking about.  Well, all that can change right now. With all of your heart, call out to Him, tell Him how much you need and want Him.   Confess your sins and ask Him to forgive you and become LORD and Savior of your life.  It will be the best decision you’ll ever make, and that hunger and thirst that you have not fully understood will be satisfied.
