WHAT ARE YOUR WORD SAYING ABOUT YOU?
James 3: 9-12 (NIV)
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
So many times we go to God in prayer and ask Him for something believing that HE has heard and answered our prayer, only to negate our prayers by the words of our mouths.
What we proclaim with our mouths:
1) Worry = is a waste of time==wrong meditation
2) Guilt= everyone makes mistakes
3) Complaining==Is being ungrateful
4) Anger==is a waste of time and energy
5) Fear==is False Evidence Appearing Real
6) Blame–But it’s not my fault
7) Comparison==Is dissatisfaction with what you have
Worrying does not move the hand of God–faith does.
Do what you can do and let God do what you cannot do.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
Guilt
Feeling guilty about past mistakes won’t undo them. You cannot do anything about your past, but you can do a lot about your future.
Guilt ZAPS ALL your strength and energy and does no good at all.
Isa 59:3 For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken lies, and your tongue mutters wicked things.
16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
People can feel so guilt-ridden by their past that they think God could never forgive and accept them. But consider Paul’s past. He had scoffed at the teachings of Jesus and had hunted down and murdered God’s people before coming to faith in Christ. (Acts. 9: 1-9) God forgave Paul and used him mightily for His Kingdom.
No matter how shameful your past, God also can forgive and use you.
Complaining
Grumbling, faultfinding, and complaining open a door for the devil to bring destruction into our lives. (Phil. 2:14; Num. 16:41)
Do everything without complaining or arguing,15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
Perhaps a lot of our problems are a result of us complaining when we should have been praising or thanking God.
Anger
Joan Lunden said: “Holding on to anger, resentment and hurt only gives you tense muscles, a headache, and a sore jaw from clenching your teeth. Forgiveness gives you back the laughter and the lightness in your life.
Refusing to be angry gives you back your life. Learn to forgive and live again.
Drinking poison because you’re angry with someone else will not phase them in any way, but it will kill you!!!!
Anger is one letter short of danger. Instead of being angry, go find people you can be good to. Rom. 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Fear
Fear can actually steal your destiny. Anyone who lives in fear will never fulfill god’s purpose for their lives.
The only fear that we as Christians should have is reverential fear of the LORD.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.(NIV)
To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Blame
But it’s not my fault. What happen to us sometimes may not be our fault but we can’t use that as an excuse to stay miserable and waste our lives.
It is a new day and God wants us to approach life in a new way. Forgetting what is behind. Phil. 3: 12-14
Php 3:12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Comparison
It is always tempting to compare what you have to what someone else has. Stop looking at what others have and start thanking God for what He has given you.
We may wonder why we have to go through trials while everyone else seems to be coasting along.
Grumbling and Complaining.
Nu 14:29-30 In this desert your bodies will fall– every oneyou twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me.
30 Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
Examples:
Do everything without complaining or arguing,15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe
16 as you hold out the word of life– in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
John the Baptist is in jail and wondering if Jesus is the Messiah, the Anointed One or is he to look for someone else.
When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples3 to ask him, “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:
5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
6 Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me.”
Peter in prison is released by angels.
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.Ac 16:26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose.
Job’s afflictions.
We all have times when we wonder why God doesn’t deliver us from a difficult situation or why He has not done something we have asked Him to do. We also have a tendency to look at someone else we know who definitely seems to have life easier than we do and the comparisons begin.
Don’t waste your time comparing be cause it only leads to jealousy, envy, resentment, and confusion and it’s one more distraction Satan uses to keep you off course.
Trust God that He has a good plan for your life.
Isa 51:16 I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand– I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.'”
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
1Pe 3:10
For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.
Ps 141:3 Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Ps. 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
As you begin each day, determine that God’s love will guide what you say and how you think.
In closing we must start realizing what it is that is coming out of our mouths and start speaking life instead of death.
Jas 5:14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
If you have never made Jesus LORD and Savior of your life, now is the time. We don’t know how many days the LORD has appointed for us to live on this earth. Where we spend eternity is even more important than where we live here. So, confess your sins to Him, and ask Him to forgive you. Then you will spend eternity with Him. God Bless!!
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.
14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners– of whom I am the worst.
